Happy Veteran's Day 2023

As most of our friends and clients know, I have 21 years in the US Army. I have served in Korea, Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar.

Here is a little information on the history of Veteran's Day in the United States.

Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11 to honor military veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

It originated as Armistice Day, a day to commemorate the end of World War I. On November 11, 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, went into effect between the Allies and Germany. This marked the end of the war, which had lasted for over four years.

In 1947, there was a growing movement to change Armistice Day to Veterans Day in order to honor all veterans, not just those who had served in World War I. In 1954, Congress passed a law changing Armistice Day to Veterans Day.

On Veterans Day, Americans are encouraged to attend parades and ceremonies honoring veterans. Many people also wear poppies, which are a symbol of remembrance for veterans. Additionally, many businesses and organizations offer discounts and other benefits to veterans on Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is a day to honor the sacrifices made by all veterans of the United States Armed Forces. It is a day to remember those who have served our country, and to recommit ourselves to supporting our veterans and their families.
