Disabled Veterans and Florida Property Taxes

100% disabled veterans in Florida do not pay property taxes on their homesteads. They are eligible for a total exemption from ad valorem taxes on property they own and use as their homesteads. This exemption is available to veterans who are Florida residents and were honorably discharged with a service-related total and permanent disability.

In addition, veterans with a VA-certified service-connected disability of 10% or greater are eligible for a $5,000 property tax exemption. This exemption is not limited to homestead property.

To apply for a property tax exemption, veterans must file an application with the property appraiser's office in the county where they own property. The application process and eligibility requirements vary by county, so veterans should contact their local property appraiser's office for more information.
